Chapter History

Theta-Lambda (Simpson College) was once a chapter of Theta Kappa Nu; this chapter of Theta Kappa Nu was established at Simpson College in 1924. During the Great Depression, Theta Kappa Nu and Lambda Chi Alpha merged together and Theta Kappa Nu became Lambda Chi Alpha.

Ever since, our chapter has worked to become a strong group of men not only on Simpson's campus, but on the international level. We have earned multiple scholastic awards and community service honors. Alongside this, Theta Lambda has earned the McIntosh Award for many years, which is only given to chapters exhibiting excellent operations across the board.

General Fraternity History

Lambda Chi Alpha was founded in 1909 by Warren A. Cole at Boston University. During the Great Depression, Lambda Chi Alpha and Theta Kappa Nu merged together in hopes of preserving fraternity life in the face of economic distress. In 1972, Lambda Chi Alpha made the remarkable decision to abandon the pledge system; in this, we sought to eliminate the hierarchy commonly associated with fraternities.

We continue to grow rapidly, with nearly 200 chapters in almost every state and representation in Canada. With over 275,000 members, Lambda Chi Alpha strives to be a forerunner in not only numbers, but in community service, anti-hazing, and maximizing a man's potential.
